Solaroller races

I am a teacher at a secondry school in tropical northern Australia. I was hoping to stir up a bit of interest by staging 'Solarollers vs cane toads' races. The students would build solarollers to pit against cane toads that their class mates provide. Cane toad races are common on Australia day. This is where there is a large circle with a radius of 2-3m; the toads are placed under a bucket in the centre. When the bucket is removed, the first to make it to the edge of the circle is the winner. Sollarollers would join the toads under the bucket and hopefully give them a run for their money.
However, I read that normal solaroller would cover 1m in 20secs. I'd reckon a toad would do that distance in 2-3secs, depending on how long it took them to get going. Is there a way of building a basic solaroller that would compete with this sort of speed? Could it be done with a 0.33F capacitor? Keep in mind that it has to built by school kids and can't be too complicated or expensive.
